The PBS Kids show, Cyberchase, is calling all kid inventors. Cyberchase is an award-winning show that helps children improve their understanding of mathematical concepts. While it is designed for the older elementary school child, children in the primary grades may be also entertained while learning about patterns, fractions, and more. The mathematical skills featured on the show are based on the standards set forth by the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics which pleases parents, while the show’s action-packed, humorous format makes children want to watch.
The deadline for the Cyberchase Inventions Initiative has been extended to October 20, 2006. Children between the ages of 6 and 12 may submit a video that shows their unique invention and how it works. Videos should be no longer than two minutes and should have the timestamp feature deactivated. Children are instructed to speak clearly and to use only their first names on the video. An entry form and release must be included with the entry, so read the rules and regulations on the website carefully. Children should wear plain clothing without logos and the video should be free of background music.
Ten tips for kid inventors are featured on the Cyberchase website as well as a series of “Inventions” clips starring Harry and Bianca. Chosen videos will be shown on the website and possibly on television. Children who think outside the box may enjoy participating in this Cyberchase's "My Big Idea" Inventions Initiative, so please share this information with any child who might be interested. Having their video shown on the web or on TV would certainly boost a young inventor's confidence and might even provide further inspiration!
