While orthostatic intolerance isn’t life-threatening, it appears that it’s enough to keep Greg Page from continuing his run with the highly successful children’s band, The Wiggles. For months, Greg’s fainting spells and other symptoms have baffled doctors. As his health deteriorated, Sam Moran, Greg’s understudy, filled in during more than 150 live shows. Now that Greg has been diagnosed with a heart condition called orthostatic intolerance, he has decided that he needs to leave the band in order to focus on his health. The Wiggles will go on with Sam Moran as the Wiggle in yellow. See Greg pass his yellow shirt on to Sam and explain his departure here.
The popular children’s band was formed in 1990 when Greg Page, Murray Cook, and Anthony Fields were studying early childhood education in Sydney, Australia. Fields had played with Jeff Fatt in the popular 80’s band, The Cockroaches, and brought him along to play the keyboard in a new children‘s band. They started out singing at local preschools and soon realized there was a market for children’s entertainment. The Wiggles recorded their first CD in 1991 and have captivated children with catchy songs and fun dance moves for more than 15 years. The Wiggles are an international phenomenon, selling more than 17 million DVDs and more than 4 million CDs worldwide. The group earns more than any other Australian act in the entertainment industry and has been named the highest earning act by Business News Weekly for two years in a row.
Cook, Fields, and Fatt have expressed their concern for Greg’s health and will continue to tour with Sam Moran as his permanent replacement.
