Mar 17, 2009 Renee Carver

By fall 2009, parents can shop from an apparel line for the popular PBS Kids® educational television show Super Why! - shirts, outerwear, jewelry, and accessories.

Preschoolers who love to watch the kids' tv show Super Why! on PBS KIDS® want to dress up like their favorite characters from the show and to wear clothes and accessories covered with pictures of Super Why, Princess Presto, Wonder Red, and Alpha Pig. Parents wondering, "Where can I find Super Why! clothes and accessories?" will be relieved to discover that an entire apparel line based on this educational children's show will be available in time for back-to-school shopping in fall 2009.

Super Why! Costumes

Disguise, Inc. already manufactures four officially licensed child costumes in toddler and small child sizes, one for each of the Super Readers, or alter-egos of Whyatt Beanstalk, Princess Pea, Red Riding Hood, and Pig.

  • The Super Why costume includes a blue and green belted and long-legged jumpsuit with a book printed on the front, a blue cape with the Super Why! logo, and a face mask. Parents must supply little superheroes with their own Why Writers.
  • The Princess Presto costume includes a shiny pink belted dress, a sheer cape with the Super Why! logo, and a pink tiara decorated with green pea gems. Parents must supply kids with their own princess shoes and Magic Spelling Wand.
  • The Wonder Red costume includes a purple and red belted and short-legged jumpsuit, a red cape with the Super Why! logo, and a purple and red safety helmet hat. Parents must supply kids with their own red sneakers, red roller blades, or red Heelys; kneepads; and a wicker basket to stand for Wonder Red's Wonder Words Basket.
  • The Alpha Pig costume includes a dark blue short-legged jumpsuit, a yellow cape with the Super Why! logo, an orange construction hat, and a belt with flat, printed Alpha Tools. Parents can supply children with their own toolbox and toy hammer.

Back-to-School Clothing and Super Why! Accessories

Several manufacturers have the rights to make Super Why! products ranging from cold weather apparel and rainwear to sleepwear and socks. The full line of items will be in stores in time for fall 2009 back-to-school shopping trips.

  • Kids Headquarters plans to make caped sleepwear and T-shirts with pictures of the Super Why! characters.
  • Berkshire will make outerwear and outdoor accessories, such as hats, gloves, and scarves, and ponchos, raincoats, and umbrellas.
  • Global Design Concepts – a company that already manufacturers backpacks and other fun, fashionable bags for licensed characters from children's television shows such as Dora the Explorer and Go Diego Go – will make Super Why! backpacks and purses.
  • Handcraft Manufacturing will offer underwear and sock sets.
  • H.E.R. Accessories will make hair accessories, jewelry, and watches.
  • Pan Oceanic will offer Super Why! themed sunglasses.
