The creator of Baby Einstein has teamed up with John Walsh from America's Most Wanted to create a DVD for kids about stranger safety. I highly recommend it!

The Safe Side’s Stranger Safety DVD is excellent. I recently wrote an article about this DVD because I believe it’s a valuable resource for families. I bought the movie for my son when he was just 3 or so and was delighted by his reaction to its humor and message. Now he’s older and still repeats some of the sayings he learned from Safe Side Superchick. He really liked Superchick’s silly behaviors and outfits. He enjoyed the music as well and requested to see the movie again and again. The creators of this DVD did a great job of balancing humor with important tips for staying safe. He now has strategies for dealing with potentially dangerous situations.

I highly recommend this DVD to anyone with children. As a parent, I wanted my son to understand that there were dangers in the world, but I didn’t want to say anything that was too frightening for a child his age. Before this DVD, I wasn’t quite sure how to approach the topic because I had read so much about how telling children not to talk to strangers is ineffective and impractical. I liked Superchick’s rule about talking to strangers: “Only talk to strangers when you’re with your Safe Side Adult.”

This is an excellent article about new strategies for helping children stay safe from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children:

Child Safety is More than a Slogan: Stranger-Danger Warnings Not Effective at Keeping Kids Safer

I highly recommended Stranger Safety by The Safe Side and hope you’ll read my review of this award-winning DVD:
